I love hearing Bing Crosby sing “White Christmas” just as much as the next guy, but sometimes I’m looking for something new to listen to this time of year. I wanted to share some links for some free Christmas music (via downloads, videos, and streaming audio, etc) that I’ve enjoyed this year.
- The Boy Least Likely To has many Christmas songs and videos to enjoy. Download “Happy Christmas Baby” from their blog or check Stereogum to download “Christmas Isn’t Christmas.” They also have great videos for “The First Snowflake” and “George and Andrew” the latter of which is a song they wrote about George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley of Wham! reuniting to spend Christmas eve together in a Cornish pub.
- Paul Simon is offering a Christmas song called “Getting Ready for Christmas Day” on his website.
- Sufjan Stevens has lots of fun Christmas songs, videos, games, and other free stuff on the Asthmatic Kitty website.
- Speaking of Asthmatic Kitty, their sister record label Sounds Familyre does a Christmas compilation album every year. You can download Volume 3 from bandcamp and if you do some searching, I’m sure you can still find Volumes 1 and 2 on their website.
- She & Him appeared on Conan recently and filmed an impromptu version of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” backstage featuring Conan on guitar.
- Pomplamoose (who you may know for their awesome youtube videos or their recent Hyundai commercials) have a whole Christmas album you can download for free (with donation of a book for Richmond Book Drive).
- Target has a free Christmas compilation featuring Coconut Records, Bishop Allen, Guster, Blackalicious, Best Coast, and others.
- Beach House has song called “I Do Not Care for the Winter Sun” you can download from their blog. It’s really more of a winter song than a Christmas song, but it’s good.
- and Kanye West just released “Christmas in Harlem” via the good music blog.
One week to Christmas eve! Don’t forget my album Lafayette & Luxia is on sale until the end of the year!
