Tonight, the Flaming Lips will set a record in the Guinness Book of World Records for most shows in 24 hours in multiple cities. I got to be there yesterday for their first of eight shows as they kicked off in Handy Park on Beale in downtown Memphis. I’m sure they’ll be cleaning confetti off the streets for weeks.
It was a great show, and the most surreal part was when Memphis’ Mayor, AC Wharton, joined the band on stage to kick off the official beginning of the 24 hours.
